EMFL User Meeting 2018, Nijmegen
Thursday June 21st the 6th EMFL User Meeting took place in Nijmegen, at HFML. Over 60 users of the European Magnet Laboratories (HFML-Nijmegen, HLD-Dresden, LNCMI-Grenoble and LNCMI-Toulouse) shared developments, scientific results and exchanged ideas on high-field research.
The day was opened by prof. Nigel Hussey, director of HFML. Several users presented results of their research: Chandra Shekhar (Max Planck Institute
for Chemical Physics of Solids), Yo Tokunaga (Japan Atomic Energy Agency),
Masoumeh Keshavarz (KU Leuven),Stephan Bron (University of Amsterdam),
Zakhar Kudrynskyi (University of Nottingham), Miguel Monteverde (LPS Orsay) and Ben Bryant (HFML‐FELIX, Radboud University). In the technical session on facility developments Toshihiro Nomura (HLD, HZDR), Jungbin Song (LNCMI‐G), Matthias Raba (LNCMI‐G) and Dmytro Kamenskyi (HFML‐FELIX, Radboud
University) took the floor. There was also a poster session, a tour around the HFML and FELIX labs and of course the yearly EMFL prize was awarded.
All and all it was a successful day. Prof. Dr. Jochen Wosnitza, Director of the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory and chair of the EMFL Board of Directors: “this user meeting was first of all very well organized. I liked it that there was a lot of diversity in the scientific talks. They were all very interesting and inspiring. I think the user meetings are getting better every time!”
Third EMFL Days 2016 in Germany
In the beautiful site of Königstein im Taunus the third gathering of the EMFL members took place. From 14th to 16th of September 2016 more than 130 people shared their scientific and engineering interests, discussed activities in managing and data-base issues, identified possibilities for future collaboration, had fun visiting Frankfurt am Main, and enjoyed delicious food and sport activities.
EMFL User Meeting 2016, Toulouse
The 2016 edition of the yearly user meeting of the European high field magnet facilities for continuous and pulsed fields took place in Toulouse, just before the Selection Committee meeting on June 17, 2016.
EMFL User Meeting 2015, Grenoble
The seventh joint User Meeting - for the third time organized under the EMFL flag - was held at the Laboratoire National des Champs Magnétiques Intenses (LNCMI) in Grenoble on July 1, 2015. The meeting took place in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere, during one of the warmest weeks since years in Grenoble, with an inspiring and informative program for the EMFL high-field users.
EMFL User Meeting 2014, Dresden
The 2014 edition of the EMFL User Meeting was organized at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (Germany) on Thursday June 19, 2014. As usual, the aim of the meeting was to exchange ideas and experiences, to present scientific results, and to discuss about possibilities for improving the facilities’ attractiveness.
Second EMFL 3to1 meeting in The Netherlands
EMFL staff meets in the Netherlands
With more than 150 participants, the second 3to1 meeting which took place from Sep 30 to Oct 2, 2013, were again a great success. The meeting took place in Egmond, a village on the North Sea one hour from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The purpose was to strengthen the EMFL‘s corporate identity among the personnel of the involved laboratories and to work together more efficiently.
EMFL User Meeting 2013, Nijmegen
The 2013 EMF user meeting was organized at the High Field Magnet Laboratory in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, on June 13, 2013. Details of the programme can be found here. The aim of the meeting was to exchange ideas and experiences, to present scientific results, and to discuss about ways of improving the facilities’ attractiveness.

First EMFL 3to1 meeting in France
In order to reach a first step in the creation of a corporate identity for the new EMFL among the personnel of the involved laboratories, a special “get to know each other” activity was organised in the South of France, in La Colle sur Loup, on October 4 and 5, 2011.
The main objectives were to present the individual founding laboratories and the plan towards forming a common EMFL, to meet and get to know the personnel of the other labs and to discuss the different working procedures. In an informal and enjoyable atmosphere, 150 staff members of the three structures spent two days presenting their work and their culture to each other.
At the beginning of March 2011 the Kick-Off-Meeting of the EMFL project took place at the High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Nijmegen. Around 50 delegates from the three countries - Netherlands, France and Germany - participated and worked together in ten work packages (WP). Within the next three years the work packages will provide studies of the feasability and cost of all proposed investments. The work packages are :
- WP 1 : Project Management
- WP 2 : Legal Structure and Governance
- WP 3 : Financial Plan
- WP 4 : Human Resource Management
- WP 5 : Community Building
- WP 6 : Communication, Education and Training
- WP 7 : Harmonization and Integration
- WP 8 : Roadmaps for European High Field Science and Technology
- WP 9 : High Magnetic Fields and Advanced Sources
- WP 10 : Magnet Technology Development
